And on the eve of the Frankfurt Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz supplies this peek under the skin of the S 500 plug-in hybrid concept it will unveil there.
The see-though shows the location of the rear-mounted lithium-ion battery pack, the charging port on the right rear flank, the regenerative braking system (and could that be a pair of in-hub wheel motors in the rear?) and the transmission and electric motor with what looks to be the power electronics controller sitting atop.
Missing is what we understand will be a V6 engine up front. Also missing: Guidance from Mercedes about the hardware the concept will be packing.
