The Mercedes-Benz 190E was the precursor to the C-Class and was a decent car overall. The car looks to be in good condition, like the Euro headlights. I would go for it. Mercedes-Benz has decent reliability and the replacement parts for a car that old shouldn’t be too expensive.

Here is a link for you to find out if the price is within the average for the area you live. The vehicle you are looking at has a good repair reputation for that year & model , but time is against you. You should expect to be performing repairs on a regular basis for a vehicle that old. If you are able, I would get an extended warranty contract if you decide to buy.
Good luck with your decision!

MB is quality. They are solidly built durable cars with a history which speaks itself. Replacement parts for Mercedes are very reasonably priced and they last very long.
The car you have seen carries a good pedigree and looks good. It carries a 4 cylinder engine which is known to be trouble free and easy to maintain. Check the service history and past owners. Have it inspected by a MB professional for any hidden surprises. If all looks fine, she will give you good service for many many years. The extras + add-ons are also value added.
For me a price of between $ 5,500 to 6,000 would be right. I am not aware of the pricing in your area and hence cannot comment. Finally, this series of MB carries a high resale value.
Good luck.

The 190 was a bulletproof car in it’s day. The only problem you have is that it’s old. Beware of potentially expensive problems: the transmission should shift smoothly, neither klunking into gear or flaring on changes. The engine needs a good check-out: compression, etc. Some of the less obvious high ticket things to look for: chassis rubber bushings, especially rear subframe mounts. These are easy enough to change if you have tools, skill, and patience. But they can be surprisingly expensive if you have to pay for labor. Driveline is coupled with rubber donuts rather than u-joints. If these are deteriorated, they should be replaced immediately, or costly damage will result. Tie rods: make sure the boots are good, even if they are sound. Again, very simple fix if you have the skills, but mechanic’s bills can add up. Same for ball joints. Rust on any car is an important consideration. But this is a unibody car: if the sills are rusted, the body can lose integrity. Even if the rust has been cosmetically fixed, simply loading the sill with plastic will eventually cause structural failure. Finally, if this one has a self-leveling suspension, I’d pass unless it’s been recently rebuilt: the self-leveling stuff is good for maybe 150K miles before it will need costly repairs.

Benz is a good brand, but you need to be prepared for relatively high costs of maintenance. New parts for the older cars are getting more expensive every year.
Get the VIN and check with a Mercedes dealer to see if the car was built for the European market, it will be harder to find the parts for a Euro’ vehicle. Also, consider taking it to the dealer for a pre-purchase inspection BEFORE you make a deal.

No. It’s not worth it. The sad thing is, however, older mercedes are actually better made then new ones.
It’s too old….and repairs will be an arm and a leg.
And 7k is WAY too much for it…I’d say nothing over $4500
Whoever is selling this to you is crazy
