NEW SPY PHOTOS this week reveal the next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS in testing. Despite the heavy cladding, there are tell-tale signs pointing to this being the high-performance AMG variant.
The quad-exhaust tailpipes protruding from the rear bumper, additional air vents in the bonnet cladding, and large sports brakes behind 19-inch five-spoke wheels would indicate that this is the CLS 63 AMG model out gathering a little on-road data.
Power is expected to come from Mercedes’ 6.2 litre V8 engine, developing around 390kW and 630Nm of torque. Depending on weight, the 0-100km/h sprint should come down in the vicinity of 4.6 seconds.
A wider track than the current model is expected; the platform underpinning the S-Class flagship to likely sit under the new CLS.
While these heavily-clad spy shots give away few clues, styling will likely be evolved from the current model, maintaining the same familiar coupe-like roofline and long sloping bonnet.
The updated CLS is expected to debut around late 2010 as a 2011 model, to be joined soon after by the AMG model.
