Mercedes-Benz Makes Competitors Green With Envy

Add comments

The environment seems to be on everyone’s mind, including luxury car manufacturers as of late. Case in point being the new green plan rolled out by Mercedes-Benz in Frankfurt that frankly stands out among the endeavors of all others.

There was of course the extensive lineup of fuel efficient diesels, coupled with the surprise of a future hybrid lineup to show the luxury manufacturer’s dedication to a green and furtive future. Two models in particular stood out-the 2009 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid and the ML450 Hybrid.

The S400 Mercedes-Benz Hybrid was expertly engineered for fuel efficiency, rather than to cater to the performance market. The gas engine is a 275 horsepower V-6 that will turn off while the vehicle is stationary and come back to life when the driver commands. There is a complementary electric motor that does not propel on its own, but rather assists during acceleration.

The S400 bursts at an impressive 0-62 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds through the wizardry of internal combustion and electricity. This green dream delivers 30 miles per gallon in true S-class comfort and luxury. Driver and passenger are both escorted in ultimate comfort, as all the hybrid equipment is housed beneath the hood and discreet.  It would seem that maintaining environmental efficiency is begging to rate as high as comfort, in both the realm of ownership, and exotic car rentals.

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid is equally impressive, springing to life via a V-6 275 horsepower engine that is also fully capable of operating under electrical power alone. This complex two-mode hybrid can expertly maneuver through stop-and-go traffic using electric power only, and thanks to the experts at Mercedes-Benz, the ML450 hybrid generates upwards of 31 miles per gallon highway. Both of these green models are a welcome breath of fresh air as the world advances toward economical and environmental achievements while maintaining the classic luxury to which we are accustom. These models will be available in the United States in 2010.
