In the competitive North American automotive market, the Mercedes C-Class represents the entry level line for the luxury German automaker. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the Baby Benz 190 model, the C-Class successfully competes against the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Audi 80, compact executive cars that are priced from the mid-30s. Building on the success of the C-Class, Mercedes recently introduced a Special Edition model, a sedan that is elegant, stylish and energizing, one that is worthy of your consideration for a car of this size.
The C-Class Special Edition possesses features and amenities not available in other models including darkened headlamps that are surrounded by a darkened frame, new idium gray paintwork and 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Alternatively, Mercedes is offering 16-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels upon customer request.
Interior Enhancements For The Special Edition
Inside, the C-Class includes a number of high quality and optimally balanced materials such as contrasting top stitching in como beige which adorn the seats, center arm rest, door center panel and floor mats, the latter embroidered with Special Edition to distinguish this model further. As a special option leather seating is available, offered in two-tone variants featuring black/sahara beige or black/cognac brown. Leather touches on the transmission shifter and steering wheel with accompanying brush aluminum trim and magnified instrument cluster completes the design enhancements found in this specific model.
Technological leadership, long a Mercedes strong suit, is evident in the Special Edition model. What Mercedes calls its Intelligent Light System, is an exterior lighting feature offering bi-xenon headlamps with adaptable light distribution, an active light function, dynamic headlamp range control plus a cornering light function optimized to adjust to current visibility. Not only do the headlamps provide maximum lighting, but they serve as an important safety feature too.
Safety Along With Engineering Efficiency
Mercedes’ Parktronic safety system is included with the Special Edition, a feature which employs both sound (acoustical waves) and sight (LCD display) to warn drivers as they enter or leave a parking space. Add that feature to Agility Control, Adaptive Brake and an all new BlueEFFICIENCY engine and the Special Edition C-Class is truly a contemporary marvel that has been created for the discriminating buyer.
Powered by a standard 24-valve 3.0L V-6 engine paired with a six-speed manual or optional seven-speed automatic transmission, the five passenger C-Class returns 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway (26 mpg for the automatic) while propelling the car from zero to sixty in just 7.1 seconds. Pricing for the Special Model hasn’t been set yet, but with a base price of $32,900 the C-Class offers a sedan that blends luxury, technology, innovation and value, perhaps doing it better than any other compact executive model currently available.
