The BMW Scholarship offers a wide range of added value programmes including driver fitness, nutrition as well as media training and public relations skills.

Formula BMW features an ultra-modern standard specification race car and a comprehensive training and intensive support programme for drivers. The Series allows drivers as young as 15 to test their talent and develop their skills.

Formula BMW is regarded as the ideal first step on the path to stardom and Grand Prix stars Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg are previous Formula BMW champions.

BMW has announced the recipients of its much sought after Formula BMW scholarship, and for Zimbabwean Axcil Jefferies, it was a dream come true.

Earlier this year Jefferies signed to contest the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific championship with Eurasia Motorsport.

With two successive South African national championship kart titles already behind his name, he channelled his attention on single seaters and after successfully completing the Formula BMW licensing school programme in Bahrain a year ago, he was able to attend a number of official test sessions in Malaysia. Despite being the youngest driver to test Formula BMW he showed impressive pace and engineers spoke very highly of the feedback he was able to give. I would liked to have done more tests because, apart from learning a lot, they made me realise I had to move up from karts, said the thoughtful Jefferies who has been racing since the age of six.

Jefferies was the first black driver to win a South African kart championship and is the first driver to represent Zimbabwe in the Formula BMW series. As a result BMW is very excited to have him on board. The BMW scholarship is a huge boost to any young driver’s career and fighting for the prestigious 50 000 euro award were drivers from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Hong Kong and Turkey.
