Mercedes genuine parts?

Add comments

So my husband has a Mercedes Benz c230 sport sedan and obviously it cost a lot more to service this car than most other cars. But what exactly are Mercedes Benz genuine parts? What brands are they? Is there a big difference if we take it to the Mercedes Benz service rather than a regular auto mechanic to change the brakes and rotors? What can happen?

Mercedes Benz are the ONLY ones to make genuine Mercedes Benz parts. Chevrolet will not make MB parts and neither will any one else.

Mercedes uses parts just like any other manufacturer that are common to other vehicle in order to save money. The reason why many customizers avoid Mercedes is because Mercedes is hush hush about common parts, and also not too many people care to modify them. Any mechanic can work on the brakes of a mercedes the only problem is the cost of parts. Believe it or not Mercedes are not highly computerized units, even Honda is much more computerized than a S500 that cost about five times as much. Mercedes is a brand that’s all, is no better than any other vehicle is just that they make less than others so they cost more.

a regular auto mechanic is fine but make sure they got a good reputation. mercedes will be good but expensive

Mercedes is highly computerized and is often the first manufacturer to introduce new systems. In the case of brakes Mercedes was the first to introduce the SBC braking system which uses brake by wire technology. In your case, your vehicle does not have it which makes the brake system easier to work on. Any mechanic should be able to replace the brakes, using after market brakes might cause unwanted noises or pulsations since they are not genuine Mercedes Benz parts. You can always purchase the parts at a dealer and have someone else put them in. Your risking brake noise more than anything by purchasing after market brakes. Similarily oil changes can be done by any mechanic also, just nmake sure you use the correct synthetic oil because it could cause engine failure if you don’t.

“Genuine parts” are parts made by suppliers for Mercedes and that meet all of Mercedes criteria for their vehicles. These parts also have the MB name and/or logo stamped on them to identify them as a genuine part.
Aftermarket or non-OE (original equipment) parts can sometimes be the same part (suppliers will sometimes make parts for a manufacturer and then make the same part to sell under their own name at a discounted price). The only difference may be that the part doesn’t have the car company’s logo on it). However, sometimes aftermarket parts will be copies of the original but they don’t meet all of the standards set by the manufacturer. The problem is that you can’t always tell (although price is usually a good indication).

As far as having someone else other than a Benz dealer install brake components, as long as you have or know a competent technician, installing brakes on a Benz is pretty straight-forward.

Mercedes does not make the brakes for that car. They buy them from a supplier like TEXTAR, JURID, PAGID. If you go to an independent shop they can use the same quality as the dealer but charge you less. Just look for a shop that works on a lot of MB cars.

It’s super easy to change the brake pads and rotors on your C230 yourself. I’ve done it myself, several times. I use a site called carstuff.com to shop for parts specific to my car. You’ll need a full set of pads (4) and two rotors. Make sure you’re buying fronts, or back, as needed. If replacing the front brakes, you’ll also need (1) brake sensor (very cheap). The car should be jacked up on a jack that’s stable. The one that comes with the vehicle is to flimsy in my opinion. Remove the tire. Loosen the two bolts that hold the caliper in place (one at the top and bottom on the back side of the caliper), then wiggle it off. Make sure you have something to place it on so you won’t stress the brake line. Pull the old pads and clips out. Watch how the clips/pads come out so you can put the new ones in properly. Then put the new pads in. You’ll have to spread them apart to get the caliper back on the rotor. I use a thick screwdriver to do it. The rotors are held in place with one screw. It has a star shaped hole, and needs that type of driver to remove/replace it. You might also have to give the old rotor a few whacks with a mallot to loosen it. Put the new rotor on and screw it down. Slip the caliper back in place, and tighten the bolts. Replace the brake sensor exactly as the old one was (only 1 on the passenger side front). Put your tire back on, and you’re done. Make sure you pump the brake pedal a few times before you drive to get the pressure back up. You may need to reset the service light on your dash afterwards. Get in the car, close the doors, turn the key to the #2 postition (on, but without starting the engine), scroll to the ’service’ screen, hold the reset button for 10 seconds, release it, then hold it in again for a few more seconds. Do it once, and you’ll wonder why you ever paid anyone else to do it for you. It’s VERY EASY!

You don’t need to buy genuine Mercedes parts. Buy the best you can afford. Check parts reviews online. Nothing will happen if you don’t use OEM parts.

go to Mercedes Benz. Prefably your dealer.

Mercedes parts are built and boxed for Mercedes, they have only have numbers stamped on the parts. If you can find aftermarket parts they won’t be built to the right spec’s.
In the long run you’ll save time and money by using O.E.M. parts.

Is it illegal for a Mercedes dealership to see vehicles with non authentic parts?
My mechanic is telling me that the back lights are not authentic…
