Why people still keep saying Big 3 American auto makers? Isn’t it 2 now since Chrysler was bought by Mercedes?

Chrysler is not owned by Mercedes anymore. It is owned by Fiat.
It will always be considered one of the “Big 3″ no matter who owns it.

It’s more accurate right now to say “The medium 1″ since the top three automakers in the world are Toyota then GM then VW… of the “big 3″ only one is in the top three. Ford is number four and Chrysler is down at number 13 I believe.
People still say it because even if it’s not accurate, people know who you’re talking about.

Mercedes don’t own Chrysler anymore. They sold it a couple years ago. Now Fiat is part owner of Chrysler…………….md

Well, their still based in the US, just owned by other companies. Jaguar and Land Rover are owned by Ford but we still consider them foreign. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are still the three big auto makers even though GM declared bankrupt and Chrysler almost went completely out of business. Sure, Ford did the best when the economy went down but that doesn’t mean they didn’t feel the heat, that just means their filthy stinkin rich.
