Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, low miles, if it is in good shape (check the title and make sure it hasn’t been repainted). Are you buying from an individual or dealer. If an individual, sign a contract saying you have three days in case anything goes wrong. Otherwise, sounds good.

A few weeks ago I took my car in for a vibration and had a technician take the car out for a road test to feel for himself. During that time I asked him a few questions, one of which included his opinion on the worst and/or most unreliable Mercedes in recent history. His response was the 2001-2002 S-class tied with the SL65 and C230 Kompressor coupe. The S-Class of that era, especially the base model S430 had tons of electrical problems that are expensive to unkink. The tech said it was the car he saw most often in the workshop.
Aside from the fact that the rims make it look so tacky, it is a fair deal. However, if you can’t afford more than a $14,000 car then you really shouldn’t go for an 8-year-old S-Class that is costly to fix. From my own experience, I’d warn you that you are in for some expensive maintenance as well.

With such low mileage the dealer should give you some kind of warranty. Make sure the Navigation CDs are with the car and all the manuals are in the car. It sounds like a good deal. Big S Class sedans are slow sellers at the moment so dealers and private sellers are lowering prices to move them.
I have a 2000 S500 and have had no electrical problems with the car. I doubt you will. Make sure things like the HVAC blower is working properly, the cooling fan doesn’t make too much noise and so on. Just wear issued. Take a good look at the brake rotors, too. If they are grooved or have concentric ripples, make the dealer replace them before you buy. If you can, get the service record pulled at a Mercedes dealer. You want to see regular services and synthetic oil changes. You can expect a long, happy life out of the car if you maintain it properly.
The general idea is the person or persons who owned the car before you dealt with the teething problems the W220 era cars had. The fixes have been made already. Now your concern is with how the last person took care of the car. 20″ rims may or may not be a good thing because an S430 is not an S55 AMG hot rod, so other than show, the big rims were a pointless addition.
Enjoy your new car and welcome to the family!

Don’t. It is likely to fall apart on you. All Mercedes are over priced and only sell because they have techno toys that just break anyway. And for something that you may have paid a high price for, it won’t hold its value.

It sounds to good to be true, there is no way that a S430 can be a little over 13,000; its just not enough.
Ask the dealer for maintenance records, and take it to you machanic to get it checked out, if all looks good then, go for it!!!
