The auto Industry is so messed up what is your opinion?

I have been at my job 14 years. We make car parts for Chrysler and Mercedes. I was laid off in December, and was told we would be called back end of January. Today my job called and said that now it has been put off until March. Not everyone is getting called back, and half my friends where fired. I was told I still have a job,but will be laid off until at least march. Does anyone think there is hope for the auto industry or this economy. I am just sick over this whole thing. Sad part is that there are no jobs out there to even go and apply at. There was not even one single job in the paper for Manufacturing this past week.

Thats because of the unions. The idiot auto’s paid too much for healthcare and benefits for their past workers.
I worked for temp agencies for Chrysler and ford. made $9 an hour and did the same type of jobs as chrysler or ford. Then parts were just shipped by truck across the street to chrysler.
Terrible, quality control. There is no hope for all our auto companies. Hope you saved your money. manufacturing costs are too expensive and not even worth it for most companies.

There is nothing wrong with the auto industry, Its the economy.Outsourcing and bad trade agreements have caused this mess not one car maker is immune. Honda recently announced it would be shutting down its american operations for a couple months.
When you outsource high paying jobs at the rate we have the last 20 years this is the ramifications.
The jobs (what are left of them) pay on the high end $10.00 to $12.00 an hour, People making these kind of wages normally don’t but brand new vehicles and if they do it isn’t every couple years ..they make them last 5-10 years.
Add to the fact we are in a credit crisis and no one can get a loan to buy anything.
This is what a global economy looks like and unless the government does something we may be in it for a while. In fact the word depression isn’t out of the question.
This has nothing to do with how much UAW employees make and everything to do with the decline of wages and loss of jobs in the public sector.
