Julia became Jules just because it’s a nice little short form. Anyone who knows me well enough will call me Jules, they can’t be bothered with the extra syllable. My parents are foreign lol (Polish) so they have a bunch of cute foreign nicknames for me too. Julia in Poland is pronounce (Yoo-lia) and Yoolie-anchen is what my mom calls me. It’s kind of like the Polish-cized version of Julie-pie, or Julie-poo… Not the world’s coolest nicknames ^_^!
