Estimation on price of Car Insurance? Would really rather not get a quote?

Add comments

Hey Guys,

I’m sixteen and about to get my first car in a couple months. I was wondering if i could get an estimation on the cost of auto insurance for a 2009 mercedes sl63 amg. If there are any other details that need be said then don’t feel shy to ask. I really appreciate honest answers.

Thank You.

Mbr firstly i’d like to say, with no disrespect, that your mind set is truly discouraging in the fact that you assume that it’s a “wish” car. Why don’t you think that I’m a HARDworking student whose parents have the means to afford luxury? I’m on my way to a scholarship to Johns Hopkins for both college and medical school as I aspire to become a cardiothoracic surgeon without naming too many of my accomplishments. Secondly, thank you for the honest response. Taking that into consideration, I will simply obtain a dealer plate under my dad for a mere 6 grand a year (covers up to 30k costs).

P.S.: The car will not be brand new as it will be from the Adesa Auto Auction and therefore will cost a mere fifty-sixty grand with ~30k miles, which is completely affordable.

You need to get a quote from an insurance agent. That’s the only way you’re going to get a good answer.

I estimate no insurance company will provide you with a policy.
Honestly, how long have you had your trolling license?

I’m an agent, I’ve been an agent for 25 years. Just so you know I’m not making it up.

I realize this is a wish car, and everyone knows it’s not going to happen.

The main factor besides your age that comes into play, is which coverages you want, and how much of those coverages. So, assuming you’re in Houston, Texas, and only want bare bones minimum, what you need to hang the plates (no coverage on the car itself), that is going to cost you around $3,000 a year.

If you want decent liability coverages, AND collision and theft, THAT is probably going to run you darned close to $25,000 a year, IF you can find an insurance company willing to insure that car with a 16 year old driver. Most flat out won’t give you a policy. Max isn’t blowing smoke out his b*tt. Insurance companies have “prohibited vehicle” and “restricted vehicle” lists, and really expensive fancy sports cars like that one are flat out prohibited, no matter how old you are.

If you were 50, with a perfect driving record, and you want to insure a car that costs more than $60,000 new, you will have a hard time finding coverage. More than $80,000, it’s going to be impossible at under five figures. If there’s a kid in the household, under 25, or ANY moving violations at all, that car will not be insurable on the standard market. If you’re 16, and want to insure a car valued at more than $40,000, it’s probably not going to happen.

Dude. When you have that first accident and your dad’s dealership figures out he’s letting his 16 year old kid drive a $100,000 car on dealer plates, he’s going to have some MAJOR business problems. I don’t care if he owns it, or owns a chain - if he does that, he’ll lose his insurance, and will have a damn hard time finding any more. And if he can’t carry insurance, he’ll lose his dealership. I really don’t think YOUR car is worth that much, to him.

It doesn’t matter how much you PAY for the car. And those dealer plates only cover LIABILITY, not physical damage - which you can buy cheaper yourself.

    Yeah, I’ve insured dealerships, too.

And . . . sorry, I don’t believe your story. Hardworking kids who want to go to medical school, and are ALREADY on college scholarship, aren’t that financially dumb, to blow $56,000 on a depreciating asset. And if you’ve got that money, you’re not going to GET a scholarship based on need.

    yep, I’m a mom, too.

    Nice manners, though.

at your age you cant get it other than your parents policy/you have to go on that because y our a minor

Insurance companies can not deny a person a policy any more. With that said, you would be surprised to learn that having a more expensive car, at the age of 16 will get you lower auto insurance. You can expect about 3500 a year for insurance for you and this car on the low side, and 4600 on the high side. Assuming you would go on your parents policy, Most insurance companies will offer you reduced prices, when switching from your parents policy to your own after a couple of years. This is a great credit builder when switching later.

Grats on a nice car, grats on deciding to go into the medical field we need more kids like you, and good luck with finding the right insurance company.

if you can find someone to insure it it will be alot, probaly more than the car is worth
