I am looking for a cheap dependable car but with some style and power. Also want to sell after a year so I want something that can recoup most of the purchase price.

Because Ford has their dirty little hands involved with them, thus creating serious safety and reliability issues and more than a ton of factory recalls, knock the following off your list of choices; the Jaguar and the Nissan. I would go with the Lexus all the way, then the BMW followed by Mercedes. The Jaguar is nothing but a rebadged glorified ford product, and the 300 suffers from certain issues brought on by ford influences, parts, and too many recalls! But the 300 is such a cool looking car. Either way whatever you get make sure you get a good warranty. But with the Jag, no warranty is going to make the problems go away. Thanks once again Ford! Ford quality job 1……… Yeah right!

I would do the 96 Nissan or the 96 Lexus. Both are very reliable, and while repairs can be expensive, they rarely need them. Neither one is likely to go down much in value either.
They still have a very strong following and many are still for sale with more miles. The only real bad thing is that both cars are at, or are very near 90000 mile service intervals that can be pricey. If they have been serviced, all the better. Toyota mechanics can work on the Lexus, and of course Nissan mechanics can still work on the 300ZX. While they probably get $75 an hour, Jag/BMW/Merc charge $100+.
I would avoid the Mercedes like the plague. They were not reliable at all. It is also a big, slow gas guzzler. Parts are hard to come by and repairs are expensive.
The BMW is a sweet car, but I would be real afraid of having to fix it. BMW 7 series are notoriously troublesome.
The Jag is a glorified Taurus. It never was competitive in its class, and reliability is poor. It will also depreciate to almost no value.
This group kinda sounds like a local dealer went to auction. Lots of miles, older but with strong brand names. Given the age and miles, most dealers will not bother selling them, but auction them.
